Zika Virus

Zika virus is primarily spread by bites from infected Aedes species mosquitoes. Both daytime and nighttime bites are common. Pregnant women can pass Zika to their fetuses. Certain birth defects can be caused by infection during pregnancy. Zika does not have a vaccine or medicine.

Signs & symptoms

The Zika virus can cause mild or no symptoms in many people. Zika is most commonly associated with Fever Rash Headache Joint pain Conjunctivitis (red eyes) Muscle pain

A doctor or other healthcare provider will ask about recent travel and any symptoms you have. In order to determine if you have Zika, they may order blood or urine tests.

Treatment

Zika virus does not have a specific medicine or vaccine. Symptoms should be treated. Make sure you get plenty of rest. To prevent dehydration, drink fluids.
