Viruses infect a host by entering into the cells and hijacking the cell's internal machinery to make more viruses. Signs & symptoms
- Flu-like symptoms (fatigue, fever, sore throat, headache, cough, aches and pains) - Gastrointestinal disturbances, such as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting - Irritability - ill feeling - Rash - Sneezing - nasal congestion - Swollen lymph nodes or tonsils
Diagnosis
The diagnosis based on a good anamnesis from the patient and a physical examination. If necessary farther diagnosis can be taken such as laboratory samples, blood culture, PCR and more.
Treatment
General treatment are aimed to relieve the symptoms such as: - NSAID'S or paracetamol for fever, body aches, and pain - Drinking a lot of fluids - Rest and sleep - Maintaining good nutrition Some types of viral infection can include extra treatments.
