Tympanosclerosis

by Alike Medical Team ∙ Updated on June 13, 2023

General

Tympanosclerosis is a condition of the middle ear and the tympanic membrane in which there is hyalinization and calcification of the connective tissue. These changes result in hearing loss. The cause for tympanosclerosis is not well understood but it could probably be caused due to long term otitis media, insertion of tympanostomy tube and atherosclerosis. Tympanosclerosis is also connected to cholesteatoma, but the relation between the two is not understood.
