Tenosynovitis of the hand and wrist refers to inflammation of the tendons in the thumb and wrist. It may be caused due to injury, or overuse. It may get worse if fluid is being built up in the tendon sheath. If it occurs in the thumb, it is called De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Treatment includes rest, not using the wrist and thumb. Medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may help and some physical therapy.
