Early signs and symptoms are not specific to Spotted fever (including fever and headache). However, the disease can rapidly progress to a severe and life-threatening illness. Signs and symptoms can include: - Fever - Headache - Rash - Nausea - Vomiting - Stomach pain - Muscle pain - Lack of appetite
Diagnosis of Spotted Fever may be difficult because early signs and symptoms are not specific. Diagnosis includes certain blood tests to look for evidence of the disease. The results of these tests can take weeks, and if there is high suspicion, antibiotic treatment should be given before test results are available.
Doxycycline is the recommended antibiotic treatment for Spotted Fever in adults and children of all ages.
