Self-inflicted injury refers to an act of intentionally harming one’s own body without wanting the injury to be fatal. It may include skin cutting, head banging, hair pulling, scartching the skin and burning.It is sometimes a way to cope with hard feeling such as distress, anger, and pain. Self inflicted injury may be harmful and cause emotional and physical harm as it as a maladpative coping mechanism. It is more common in teenagers, LGB community, and people who are diagnosed with some mental health conditions such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression and substance abuse disroders. It is important to seek for help and proffesional support in order to stop self-harming.
