Retarded ejaculation, or impaired ejactulation is a condition which is characterized by a longer than usual stimation type for men to reach sexual climax and release semen. It may be temporary or permanent, generalized or situational, meaning it’s limited to certain sex partners or kinds of stimulation. Possible causes may include health conditions, psychological causes, surgeries and medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, medications for high blood pressure, diuretics and alcohol.

There is no specific time that indicates a diagnosis of delayed ejaculation.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include blood tests and urinalysis.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include stopping certain medications, psychological counseling or medications to treat the underlying cause. Medications that might help delay ejaculation may include amantadine, buspirone and cyproheptadine.
