Phimosis happens in an uncircumcised penis, when the foreskin cannot be pulled back. Phimosis could be physiological, typically in childhood and it doesn’t cause any symptoms and resolves with age. In the pathological type it causes symptoms and leaves the penis with an opening the size of a pinhole. Phimosis is caused due to poor hygiene, skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and lichen sclerosus, scar tissue, injuries and infections such as STIs.
