Peyronie's disease
What is it?
Peyronie's disease, also known as penile curvature, results from a fibrous scar tissue that causes it to have a curved shape. In this condition, men may exprience signifacnt bend or pain, difficulties in performing sexual intercourse or maintain an erection. It is more common in men who have a family history of the disorder, have connective tissue disorders and in men who are older than 50 years old.

Signs & symptoms
Symptoms may include a scar tissue that is felts as a lump under the skin, bending of the penis, erection problems, shortening of the penis, pain, and other deformities.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Sometimes a penile ultrasound is done.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the stage of the disease. In the acute phase, treatment may include penile traction therpay, injection and medications such as colagenase, verapamil and interferon. In the chronic phase, treatment may include also a sugical procedure.
