Multiple gestation is a pregnancy with more than one fetus. This may be the result of fertility treatments, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), or in a spontaneous pregnancy, usually among women older than 35 years old.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms of multiple gestation may be more intense than with single gestation. Some of the symptoms can include severe nausea and vomiting, rapid weight gain, tender and sore breasts, high levels of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP).
