by Alike Medical Team ∙ Updated on June 13, 2023
Lambert-Eaton syndrome is a rare condition which is characterized by muscle weakness. It affects the signals sent from the nerves to the muscles. Half of the cases are associated with lung cancer, and the other half are not and may begin at any age. It is an autoimmune disease affecting the neuromuscular junction.
0 people with Lambert-Eaton syndrome are on Alike.
Symptoms include muscle weakness, muscle pain, difficulty performing everyday activities, ptosis, dry eyes, blurred vision, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and erectile dysfunction.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include blood tests for autobodies, nerve studies, and imaging tests in order to rule out lung cancer.
While there is no cure for Lambert-Eaton, treatment may include cancer treatment, pyridostigmine for nerve signals, immunosuppressants, immunoglobulin therapy, and plasmapheresis.
