Erb’s palsy is a condition in which the brachial plexus, which is a group of nerves, is damaged which causes weakness of the arm or loss of muscle function. Erb’s palsy causes stretching or tearing of the brachial plexus, and it is the most common type of brachial plexus palsy. Newborns may develop it during delivery and adults may have it due to accidents, surgical complications or tumors.

Symptoms may include paralysis of the shoulder, arm and elbow, numbness or tingling in the arm or hand, and a hand position known as "the waiter’s tip".
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include EMG and imaging tests.
Erb’s palsy typically resolves on its own. It is suggested to exercise and get physical therapy to stretch and practice the arms,hands and wrists range of motion. Other treatments may include botox injections, and surgical treatment such as nerve and muscle repair.
