Gynophobia refers to fear of women which is characterized by men who experience humiliation by women. This fear interferes with the daily activities of those who have it. It is a specific phobia, and it is not well understood why it occurs.
Symptoms may include fear, or wor worry immediately when seeing or thinking about women, knowing that this fear is not logical but feeling it’s not controlled by you, fear the becomes worse when women get closer, keeping away women or events in which there could be an encounter with women, an upset stomach, dizziness, or fainting when seeing or thinking of women.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and an interview with a mental health professionals.
Treatment may include psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy.
