Genu valgum, or knock knees, is a condition in which the knees are misaligned and causes the knees to turn inward. It is a common condition in young children which usually corrects itself during growing up. Genu valgum may also occur due to an injury or infection to the knee, lack of vitamin D and calcium, obesity and arthritis. Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. In childhood, this does not require any treatment while if there is an underlying cause it should be treated with weight loss, supplements, exercise, orthotics or surgery.

Genu valgum / "knock-knee," is a condition in which the knees angle in and touch each other when the legs are straightened.
When genu valgum is present in an older child or adult, it's essential to find out if there's an underlying cause. Bone disease or arthritis will need to be treated. During a physical exam, observation on walking and standing will be performed. Other examinations may include:
- inequality in leg length
- knee alignment angle
- uneven wear on the soles of shoes
In some cases, X-ray or MRI scan might be needed to examine the bone structure.
Treatment for genu valgum depends on the cause and severity of the symptoms.
