Scrotal swelling is when the scrotal sac becomes enlarged, either gradually or suddenly. Scrotal swelling may be caused due to testicular torsion which is a medical emergency, fluid build-up (hydrocele), inflammation (orchitis, epididymitis), trauma, enlarged veins, henia, congestive heart failure or a skin condition. Accompanying symptoms may include lumps and pain. Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include testicular ultrasound and biopsy. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include antibiotics, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
