And regulates the actions of the body systems, such as blood pressure. The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system which includes the brain and spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system which includes nerve cells.

Signs & symptoms

The symptoms of a nervous system problem depend on which area of the nervous system is causing the problem. Nervous system problems may occur slowly Or they may occur suddenly and cause life-threatening problems. Symptoms may vary from one person to another. Some conditions can cause nervous system problems include: - Blood supply problems (vascular disorders). - Injuries (trauma), especially injuries to the head and spinal cord. - Problems that are present at birth. - Mental health problems, such as anxiety disorders, depression, or psychosis. - Organ system failure such as Respiratory failure, Heart failure, Kidney failure etc. - Numbness, tingling, weakness, or inability to move a part or all of one side of the body - Loss of speech - Severe headache - Severe nausea or vomiting. - Seizures

Diagnosis

The diagnosis starts with a good anamnesis from the patient and a physical and neurological examination. If necessary farther diagnosis can be taken such as: - Laboratory Samples - Lumbar Puncture (LP). - Electroencephalogram (EEG). - MRI. - Electrodiagnostic tests, such as electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV).

Treatment

Treatment is related to the diseases or disorders and can include: - Medicines, possibly given by a drug pumps - Deep brain stimulation. - Spinal cord stimulation. - Rehabilitation/physical therapy after brain injury or stroke. - Spinal surgery.
