Signs & symptoms

The symptoms of a nervous system problem depend on which area of the nervous system is causing the problem. Nervous system problems may occur slowly Or they may occur suddenly and cause life-threatening problems. Symptoms may vary from one person to another. Some conditions can cause nervous system problems include:
- Blood supply problems (vascular disorders).
- Injuries (trauma), especially injuries to the head and spinal cord.
- Problems that are present at birth.
- Mental health problems, such as anxiety disorders, depression, or psychosis.
- Organ system failure such as Respiratory failure, Heart failure, Kidney failure etc.
- Numbness, tingling, weakness, or inability to move a part or all of one side of the body
- Loss of speech
- Severe headache
- Severe nausea or vomiting.
- Seizures

Diagnosis

The diagnosis starts with a good anamnesis from the patient and a physical and neurological examination. If necessary farther diagnosis can be taken such as:
- Laboratory Samples

- Electroencephalogram (EEG).
- MRI.
- Electrodiagnostic tests, such as electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV).

Treatment

Treatment is related to the diseases or disorders and can include:
- Medicines, possibly given by a drug pumps
- Deep brain stimulation.
- Spinal cord stimulation.
- Rehabilitation/physical therapy after brain injury or stroke.
- Spinal surgery.
