Hemihypertrophy is a rare condition characterized by asymmetry between both sides of the body- one side grows more than the other. It is either idiopathic or caused due to several syndromes such as neurofibromatosis and Beckwith- Wiedemann. It happens slightly more on the right side, and may involve the head, trunk, and internal organs.

Symptoms include a tendency for one side of the body, a long arm or leg or bigger in its circumference.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination- hemihypertrophy is diagnosed as a 5% or greater difference in length and/or circumference. There could also be leg-length discrepancy. Further evaluation may include imaging of the bones and abdominal ultrasound.
Treatment includes non operative options such as shoe lift and corrective shoes and surgical corrections.
