Chronic pansinusitis

The sinuses are air-filled spaced around the eyes and nose. Pansinusitis refers to a condition which is characterized by infection of all sinuses. It may be caused due to hay fever, allergies, asthma, nasal polyps, deviated septum, cystic fibrosis, respiratory tract infection or conditions that affect the immune system such as HIV.

Symptoms may include headache, fatigue, pain around the eyes, cheeks or nose, sore throat, toothache, fever, bad breath, problems with smell or taste, ear pressure, difficulty breathing, and nose discharges.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include nasal endoscopy, CT, MRI, allergy testing or nasal cultures.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include antibiotics, nasal steroids, allergy shots, surgeries for nasal polyps or nasal blockage and over the counter remedies including nasal irrigation, and saline drops.
