by Alike Medical Team ∙ Updated on June 13, 2023
Chondromalacia patellae, or knee pain, refers to a condition which is characterized by breakdown of the cartilage that holds the kneecap. The pain is caused due to friction of the thigh bone and the knee. It is more common in teenagers, young adults, overweight people and people who have had injuries or suffer from recurrent dislocations of the knee cap such as runners, bicyclists, and football players.
