Anterolisthesis refers to a condition which is characterized by forward slippage of a vertebra on top of the lower one. It most commonly happens in the vertebras of the lower back and neck. The misalignment of the vertebrae results in impingement of the nerves passing nearby, which causes pain. It may be caused due to injury, and fractures or due to too much physical exercise. Underlying causes may include arthritis, tumors and having weak bones. This condition is divided into grade by its severity, grade 1-2 refers to having less than 50% slippage, while 3-5 refers to more than 50% slippage.
11 people with Anterolisthesis are on Alike.
Symptoms include pain in the area of anterolistesis, numbness and tingling in the lower back and legs, tight hamstring muscles, back stiffness and spine curvature.
Diagnosis is based upon findings from medical history and physical examination. Further evaluation may include imaging tests.
Treatment depends on the severity of the condition. For low grade anterolisthesis, pain relievers or steroidal injections may help as well as physical therapy. High grade anterolisthesis may require surgery, but it is usually not recommended.
