When I was one, I got a head injury to the temple that would be the only explanation to why I couldn't and still can't smell. Today was the first day I hate that I can't. My house was smoking ready bad from food that was cooking and burning, but I couldn't smell it. I only went out there thinking I wanted a snack why I waited, but then I found nothing but smoke everywhere. Luckily, nothing caught on fire and it could've been so bad. I hate feeling at fault, because I could've done more, but my nonexistent smell was a big reason that happened and could happen again. so my questions are... How can I get better smell for precautionary reasons? Is there more triggering scents that just ignite the power in your nose? or treatments? if not, is there other things that could help me substitute my sense of smell in a way, such as fire detectors. just as a plan b if I can't hear that?

I got COVID in Jan 2021. Ever since, I’ve lost the sense of taste and smell & have tried various things to get it back but still got only 50-60% back. Any one can help?

Hi there, I’ve been dealing with parosmia for several months now. My particular case seems to be different from what I’ve read others are experiencing online so I thought I’d try here. No matter what the food, whether it’s a meat, a vegetable, bread, rice, toothpaste or whatever if it has that smell/taste it’s the same smell/taste no matter what the food is. It’s not a smell or taste I’ve ever experienced so I can’t put my finger on it to describe what it is because it doesn’t have a similarity to anything and it’s awful. Besides food, the only other symptom along these lines seem to be soap, whether shampoo, hand soap, or laundry soap. They have a different smell that is sour. If you or anyone you know has experience with this I’d be interested in learning more. Thanks

I’m Not sure parosmia really defines what I experience. From what I’ve researched it’s Phantosmia, which is the smelling of phantom scents. Anyone else?
