it could be that some of your memories are either false and created by your brain in an attempt to fill in the gaps to explain your feelings, OR they could be super vivid dreams/dreams that happen in the wrong phase of sleep that makes them seem real (an extreme form of hypnagogic hallucinations, something everyone experiences to some degree). do you have any sleep disorders or a history of head trauma? either way, a therapist is in order, they can help you sort through the feelings that may have created those memories and they can help you cope with your brain (or the people around you) betraying you

@wise i have sleep disorders but this happened when i was like 8 years old.. i don’t know what could have caused false memories of my mom at that age when i was having problems with my real dad, the trauma came from my real dad so why would i have memories of my mom being stabb*d? i’m scared a theripist is gonna lock me up in the gribby sock hospital if i try to convince her this is real lol

@Cvprisun it's actual not uncommon to have false memories of the parent you don't associate with trauma! it's probably just your brain trying to find balance and failing miserably lol. I've had false memories of my mother being abusive, but I know they're false because the details don't really make sense for the event itself and who she is as a person. ask your mom to see where she would have scars from being stabbed, examine the surroundings in your memory, really analyze everything and see if it actually adds up. sleep disorders will also greatly increase your chances of developing trauma-induces false memories that are super vivid and feel upsettingly real. the fear you feel related to these memories is just as valid and traumatizing as memories of real events. it's not like your brain can tell the difference. tell your therapist about them, she can help you work through them and determine whether or not they're real and how to cope with your feelings about them

Yes, the other day I brought something up to my adoptive mother and asked if she remembered it because the incident had been on my mind lately, and she said that it never happened and that she was confused and concerned as to how I could "just convince" myself that it did happen, my adoptive dad had no idea what I was talking about either but I remember it so vividly that it has to be an actual memory.

Yes! I listened to my abuser admit to my mom his SA to me but for some reason my mom has 0 recollection of that 😡

I've thought this but I've realized when I'm really tired I take real world things and fall asleep and dream about them differently but when I wake up I forget it's a dream and just think it's a memory so maybe your "memories" are just vivid dreams??

@Jo__00 there’s just no way.. i remember this so detailed when i was like 8.. my mom heard her friend banging on her window so she went outside to the backyard and there was a guy with a little knife that stabbed her all over.. i remember standing outside with my family!! okay now i realize i sound crazy. she swore it never happened but why would my brain just make that up?! i feel insane right now lol
