Does anyone else have a problem with like trying to turn off their emotions? Here lately when I feel like my anxiety is about to flare up, I try to stop feeling all together. I guess it’s become a coping method. I don’t want to do that anymore though. I want to find better ways to deal with it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I coped like this for a long time; you get really good at turning off emotions or ignoring them, but it comes at the cost of emotional connection with others. I’m proud of you for seeking better ways to manage your anxious thoughts. In my experience, just taking ten minutes to brain dump all of the anxious thoughts into a journal is helpful. That way you can get them out of your brain. And then, if you’re feeling up to it, using the CBT method of finding the false narratives in the anxious thoughts can be helpful to change how you feel about them. I’ve found the app Woebot very helpful in teaching and guiding through the anxious and depressed thought patterns. It also gives you a place to gratitude journal, which can help give you something to look forward to. Most importantly, just remember that it’s okay to feel bad. It’s okay to react to things anxiously. This feeling still needs space, and letting it out is going to be helpful to you. You’re doing great work out here.
