went to the ER last night for TMJ pain that's been so severe I haven't been able to eat. got a diagnosis of dental abscess, despite having no visible abscess and no fever or tooth pain, and got antibiotics that I couldn't get today because the pharmacy closed three hours earlier than I thought it would on a Saturday. I love being alive šŸ™ƒ hopefully my bones don't just fall out of my face while I wait for someone who understands the difference between a TMJ disorder and dental pain

@Brainiac5 They also tried numbing me up another time and they gave be a bite razor for possible grinding in case that was causing it, but when I do wear it, it makes the pain worse. Or brings it on if I wasn’t in pain before.

Same. I went to a&e a couple months ago now when it first got extremely bad. But I’d just had a filling and thought it was an infection from that. Again 2 antibiotics which didn’t do anything. I went to dentist about half a dozen times in about 6 weeks and they couldn’t figure it out. Said they couldn’t see any reason for the pain. Thought it might be the cavity - but it was tiny, my extreme sensitivity, a dead tooth, then the need to have it removed thinking that would sort it but it hasn’t. Still waiting to see doctors about a diagnosis.

So I use a bite guard for grinding and apnea could that help?

@mymonkey8u it doesn't, my TMJ is caused by a connective tissue disorder so the guards make it so much worse šŸ˜… they basically slowly push my jaw out of place, which only makes those muscles tense up more

@wise the same thing happens to me when I use mouth guards 😧

I’m having a really similar issue. How did they diagnose that? Have a dentist appt soon I’m hoping that can sort it out. Sorry you’re in so much pain ): šŸ’• hopefully you can get those antibiotics tomorrow

@CGC I hope your dentist appointment goes well šŸ’• praying you don't need surgery for it like I probably do

@CGC the PA took a glance in my mouth and saw a cavity and said I must have an abscess. no x-ray, no physical exam beyond that, just a lil peek into my mouth. I also told him I don't have a dentist, which is probably why he didn't take me seriously when I said the problem wasn't my teeth
