Any tips on helping to manage anger flare ups? I am currently in and have always had times where I become very irritated and the smallest thing can cause a short outburst of anger. I've tried all of the common ways of helping such as music, breathing, hobbies but none help and I've run out of options so I'm curious of there's something I've never thought about before. Thanks!

Speaking for myself, I have little to no patience with people when I neglect my own needs or haven't gotten my act together. I can be more generous when my cup is full.

Actually, yes. I have anger outbursts that are attributed to PTSD. When I'm in a certain situation, usually when in a disagreement with my partner or when I feel like I can't communicate what is wrong or make sense of my strong feelings, I will have a rage attack and dissociate. I finally am able to recognize the emotion that happens directly before my outburst. So I made a plan. When I have that feeling, I make a sign to my partner that we need to initiate our plan to avoid a complete meltdown. Make a hand signal, say a trigger word, whatever you need to do, and then follow the steps you planned. 1. Stop talking 2. Sit down or leave the room 3... and so on. Have a plan, recognize the emotional trigger, and execute the plan. You can apply this to anything. If you are driving and someone cuts you off or is driving too close and that triggers you, tell yourself this is the trigger. 1. Find somewhere to pull over 2. Write down what happened and how it made you feel 3... Hope this helps!

Some suggestions for managing anger include going for walks, listening to music, and trying to understand what your anger is trying to tell you. Taking time to yourself to process your thoughts before expressing them outwardly can also be beneficial. Deep breathing exercises, such as the 5-5-5 technique, have been found helpful by some individuals. Others find that sensory deprivation or removing themselves from triggering situations helps. Physical activities like hitting a punching bag, working out, or even throwing ice can help get aggression out without harming oneself or others. Listening to angry music and singing along to it, or screaming along to your favorite music while driving with the windows down, has also been suggested.
