I've been on MANY different medicines over the past 26+ yrs (almost every mood stabilizer and depression medications). I'm still experiencing severe depression to the point where I'm in bed for 1+ months (not showering, not eating, only getting up for a cigarette, a drink and to use the restroom. I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS!! Even when the depression has subsided, I'm still in the headspace of just staying in bed, bc there's nothing for me to look forward to!! I WANT to work, I just don't know when it's going to start again, or 1 of the other issues joins the party. I'm SO afraid and anxious of making phone calls, I can't get anything done?! (i. e. replace insurance card, talk to my doctor/ counselor on ZOOM {I do the mtgs, but I'm uncomfortable}, get a $1400 stimulus card to pay for my insurance, call for free solar panels, call to get disability, stupid EASY everyday stuff like this! I just can't get the "courage" or drive to do it. Plus procrastination is a VERY CLOSE FRIEND of mine!!) I could go on, but I won't. My friends/ family DON'T UNDERSTAND the impending doom I feel when thinking about doing these things!! Does ANYONE out there understand this, if so...how do you get past this??!!! 🤷🤦😩🤯 thanks for reading this if you did! ✌🏻🤗💜

That is the worst worst feeling. I’m so sorry! I’ve been looking for help with my depression since I was a teenager. Nothing, including ketamine, has done much for me. I would like to try different psychedelic options but the FDA and insurance companies are a joke. One thing that’s helped alot is finally getting my anxiety under control. I can entirely dissociate from reality and spiral into dangerous depression if it goes unchecked and only recently have I found a psychiatrist with the empathy to prescribe what I need to get out of that cycle. I take pristiq and Xanax, also a stimulant for adhd. The stimulant itself is also recent and is more effective than any ssri or snri I’ve ever taken. I know everyone says diet and exercise, sure if you can make yourself eat, let alone eat healthy or get out of bed. It comes down to neurology for some of us unlucky ones and drugs are the only thing that help with that. Good luck to you!

Omg I thought this was just me with the phone calls! I have a terrible time making phone calls. I do the same. I make a list and I just do it and get it over with. If I think about it too long I get way too anxious, so I just do it. I push myself to do things when I get anxious and or depressed. I have been forcing myself to get outside every early evening and go for a walk. Trust me it is the last thing I feel like doing. But once I am out there I feel so much better! I keep telling myself if I don’t make a change, nothing is going to change. I remember seeing this sign at work when I was just a young kid and it didn’t make any sense to me back then. But I always remembered it and now I get it. It said “If you always do, what you always did, you’ll always get, what you always got” now I get it. So I have to change something to make me feel better or I’ll continue to feel the same. Sitting in the house day in and day out was not good for me. So I force myself to get up shower brush my teeth and get outside. I feel so much better after I do. Oh and if you have a negative thought, try and stop it right there and turn it around to a positive thought. Give it a try. Best of luck to you and everyone on this journey.

Animefreak, I first wanted to let you know you are not alone. I was like that about 10 years ago. I made a list of who I needed to call and I would call one person a day. If I was feeling confident about that one call and things went well I’d call a second person. My advice is to be kind to yourself. You won’t be at this same place forever. Life is hard. I had to learn that every day is a new day. I would take one day, sometimes one minute at a time, at a time. I also have a deep faith in God. I now pray every day. I have friends at church that encourage me. I will pray for you. If you ever need to talk please Message me. I would be glad to talk to you. 🤗

Yes phone calls give me anxiety. I just don't want to deal with anyone or anything.

wow i thought i was alone in having issues with phone calls. its hard for me too more than o tell ppl. it takes all of me just to make an appt. this is what i do and its from my trauma therapist. i write all the calls i need to make...ALL no matter how big or small it is then i choose just two calls to make a day. some days i can do all of them and some days only one but its helped me not be so overwhelemed because im a mo. so i have to make a.lot.of calls for docs.etc.

Have you ever talked to a doctor about Electroconvulsive Therapy? I've been on many different meds over the years, but they just didn't seem to help. I started ECT in March and it is like a MIRACLE cure! I feel like an entirely different person. I sleep normal hours, I've started going to the gym, I've been working on some pretty intense projects and I haven't been overwhelmed by them. I would recommend asking a psychiatrist if it could be a viable treatment for you, if it is available in your area.

@Shepard ect treaments did nothing for me except really bad headaches and loss of memory! I wished it worked for me

@Bruin Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that!

@Shepard ECT is specifically for depression, but I found it helped my anxiety enormously as well. I am still also taking anti-depressants along with receiving frequent ECT treatments.

@Shepard My depression is in the 99th percentile as far as severity, so I've had many doctors who were pretty stumped as to how to help me. Ketamine therapy is also really helpful for some, but unlike ECT it is not covered by insurance. I tried Ketamine therapy last year, and doing it intravenously helped a bit, but then they switched to intramuscular and it didn't help me nearly as much, so it felt like an expensive waste of time and money.
