for years i have dealt with wanting to change myself as a person, like my personality, the clothes i wear, the music i like, my hobbies… ive wanted to change it all to be the “perfect” idealized version of me. it was worse when i was a young teenager, and its simmered off as i started to get older. i’m going to be 20 this year, and i realize i am still holding on to that. i’m not being authentically me. but i also feel like i don’t know who i am. but i do. it sucks, and ive felt this way for so long. any advice?

I had this issue so bad at the end of high school. I went from extremely masculine to dressing like most of the girls in my school with my natural hair and everything. I was miserable in both of those states because I tried to be someone I wasn't. My best coping mechanism was to find a vibe I connect with most and try to tie my outward appearance towards that vibe. I feel good in myself because I like the way I look and I feel slightly more stable in who I am being able to label my "vibe"

Took me til I was almost 27 to start living as authentically me. I'm also queer and was deeply in the closet which played a major role of that. I'm 31 (32 this weekend!) and I've never felt better than I do now regarding being myself! :) I believe you'll get there too!

This is my life. I’m 23 and I don’t know a single thing about myself except I wish she were dead.

I wish I could say it goes away but I’m still struggling with it at 28. It has gotten easier though
