Ruminating is a real killer for me. Yet despite knowing that, I just can't stop. I just feel like everything that's wrong with my life now is down to some things I did wrong or should've done but didn't do, and there seems to be no way of getting back to how things were before. But as important as it is to forgive myself and move on (and much easier than hating myself) I still can't stop ruminating. Is it because my life is so out of place now that I've been punishing myself for letting things get like this in the first place?!

I have the same problem. It comes down to letting go of the past. Bringing attention back to the present moment can help. Count your breaths, focus on what's right in front of you, or scan your body and identify the various sensations you feel. I find this podcast can be helpful. Best wishes. https://letstalkaboutmentalhealth.com.au/2022/01/30/ruminating/
