I’m hitting a roadblock currently. I’ve been on specific meds for a few years now with the same psychiatrist and in the beginning the meds seemed to be helping but now I’m not so sure. I’ve recently moved out with my bf just under a year ago and that has been my dream for a long time. Life has been great with him however my mental health has been at its worst. My anxiety levels are overwhelming and my depressive episodes come on more often. I’ve discussed changing my meds with my phych and he tells me I’m in the best combo of meds and doesn’t recommend I change them. What do I do? I haven’t changed them and nothing seems to help. Should I seek other methods of dealing with symptoms or should I seek a new psychiatrist? I’ve tried therapy and it didn’t seem to help. I need advice..I can’t seem to find out what’s causing this mess and how to fix it.

It's a good idea to have a therapist even if it doesn't seem helpful at first, but also really important to have doctors who want to hear your experience and tailor your treatment to that. Maybe try telling them once more that you need a change, and if they don't listen, make an appointment with someone who will.

In my experience it’s best to keep trying until you find someone that will listen to you. I find it very frustrating when psychiatrist and other doctors seem so incredibly dismissive of what I’m dealing with especially since a lot of the issues I deal with feel so debilitating. Sometimes meds become less effective over time or you might just need a higher dose of whatever it is you are taking. I’m not sure what exactly you’ve tried as far as increasing dosages though. I would say maybe ask about that at first or if you really want another opinion you could just find another psychiatrist to give you a second opinion. I know it’s hard to switch providers but it might be beneficial for you. I understand how frustrating this kinda thing can be but just keep trying until you get to a place you are happy with it just might take some time. I know this wasn’t super helpful but I just wanted you to know you aren’t alone 💕
