I have no idea what to do. I am in love with my girlfriend. She is one of the best people I’ve met in my life but I am losing myself. Everything that was mine is now ours. My mental health is deteriorating FAST. I was in residential treatment last May-August and I made SO much progress. I started to learn how to cope with my anxiety in a healthy way and I wasn’t making myself sick anymore. I met my gf less than a month after I got home from res. I have no idea what a mentally stable me looks like on it’s own. I don’t know who I am anymore. I am a camouflage girlfriend. We have SO MANY huge differences that I think will affect our relationship. She isn’t family oriented and my family is my entire life. She wants to move to DC to be a lawyer but I would miss my family. Her mom hates me because I didn’t go to college so I have “no ambition” even though I work a really good job. She wants kids, I don’t think I do. She wants to get married, I don’t think I do. I have no idea what to do. If someone could give me any guidance or even just talk to me I would really appreciate it. I need someone really bad.

I’m sorry you’re having this problem in your life. It’s never easy going through these types of things that involve someone else that you care for deeply. I’ve gone through a similar situation myself. You have to sit and evaluate how well your partner can support you, especially when you go through really rough patches. Because unfortunately if they can’t handle it, it will only drag you down and can’t set you back. You never want to have to let go of someone you really love but you have to put yourself first. As for having differences, those are things that if you have the love and support you need from your partner you can work thru them, trust me. Key word is SUPPORT. If your partner isn’t giving you the level of support you require for your mental health and your life in general then unfortunately it’s not gonna bode over well. You can message me if you wanna talk some more. I’m here to lend an ear.
