I'm having trouble with "basic" things (eating, sleeping, etc.) and I was wondering how to develop a routine and stay motivated about life? I feel like I don't really have much to look forward to. I can't work outside the house because I'm a caregiver for someone who needs constant supervision but sometimes I think it's better that way since I can't even stay caught up with my freelance work anymore. I feel like I don't do much all day except strategize how I'm going to cope, which leads to overthinking. I'm always just distracting myself (movies, TV) and I can't imagine much of a future for myself. Sometimes I've thought about setting a schedule for myself, but my sleep has been so unstable/unpredictable. I just try to sleep when I can and some nights I just don't sleep or sleep only a few hours. I feel like no one has messed up their life like I have (I know that's a huge exaggeration but that's just what my brain will be telling me during dark moments). I don't really find joy in little things anymore. I feel overwhelmed by everything that's happened in my life and I'm not sure where to start or if it's even worthwhile to try and get myself together.

I'm also having issues with "basic" care tasks, but for different reasons. I really recommend looking at @strugglecare on tiktok/insta and reading her book, How To Keep House While Drowning. If reading isn't your thing, she also has a TED talk up on youtube. The philosophy that care tasks are morally neutral and you're not a "bad" person for not doing them has helped tremendously. As far as routines go, I would try starting really small. You aren't going to be able to jump right in to a 20 step care routine, for example. Instead, pick one small thing at a time and work on trying to do just that. You will be able to see yourself make progress if you take baby steps, whereas it's much easier to get overwhelmed and give up if you try to fix everything at once. Hope this helps!

I'm sorry you're going through this. Try starting something creative that you can easily do a little bit to then come back to later on, the end result can be something beautiful for you to have in the house or perhaps something that you sell to be enjoyed by someone else. There is so many things that don't require any particular talent either such as diamond painting or paint by numbers etc. And people will buy complete ones because they look nice. And so it's not only something to focus on each day but possibly a small income too. As for the motivation, find some things you enjoy and do them. And then focus on the idea of You're going to sleep well and eat so you have the energy to do those things you enjoy. Another option is free mini courses online they can be in anything.

To develop a routine and stay motivated, try setting small goals each day, such as doing stretches, reaching out to friends, or engaging in self-care activities like makeup or grooming. Be patient with yourself and recognize your progress as you go along. Remember that change won't happen overnight, but taking small steps can help you gradually improve your daily life and find joy in little things again.
