I’ve been struggling for years with my anxiety, IBS, agoraphobia and now recently COVID. I’m afraid to leave the house because I’m scared I’ll feel sick outside (diarrhea, nausea, malaise/discomfort; worst case throwing up in public even though it’s never happened, it’s my worst fear). My anxiety stems from this, then the IBS kicks in and I actually do feel sick. It’s a vicious cycle, and it’s very “what came first- chicken or egg”. I had COVID last week and I’m struggling to leave the house for the first time in 2 weeks. My anxiety is hindering my relationships and self esteem, and general quality of life. Advice, help, relate?

Anxiety has forced me to try to work from home, which is okay, but near impossible to find any good remote jobs. I'm instead creating my own YouTube channel and blog for mindfulness. If I'm unable to leave my house, I'm going to make it a whole vibe - chill environment while working effectively. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this, just please know you're not alone.

Aww I totally relate to this ❤️ my belly and my anxiety were at one point basically two peas in a pod! However, I *did* find out, with out even seeking it out, that I have Celiac’s disease. From puberty until I was 32, I *never* had a normal poop! ALWAYS diarrhea. It took only about 6-10 weeks eating completely gluten free before my bowels started to normalize. It has been quite some time now since I’ve had anything BUT norm poop. 🤣 did you ever consider your diet as a cause for your stomach issues?

@Antek Actually yes! This is very true, I’m lactose intolerant! Changing my diet (going dairy free in 2018) has helped my GI tract immensely! I also try to eat more whole foods and I rarely eat at fast food places. It definitely helps to eat better and I know I can’t have dairy whatsoever. I also just cut out sugary foods— no soda, no added sugar, no sweets, less sauces. I think it’ll help in the long run even though it’s hard now.

I can relate to the anxiety and houseboundness. I've been increasingly sicker so leaving the house doesnt happen frequently and when i do it's for necessity and not enjoyment. It's already kind of like that even if you remove how sick I am because everyone who lives with me, including several of our pets, are at least somewhat immunocompromised so we have to remain quarantined regardless, and every time we go out we're all anxious that we'll get sick. Basically all of my friendships that I have left from before covid are long distance friends because everyone i know only wants to hang out in public and never at either of our houses. I try to keep at least a video game playing relationship with everyone I can but not everyone can or wants that.

I can relate almost exactly just not with covid. Every time I leave the house I have anxiety that I could get sick and i’d be in front of people and no where to puke. If i get even the smallest headache my anxiety goes crazy and I end up throwing up at the end because of anxiety even though my headache could be totally gone. It’s just when I get nauseous my anxiety snowballs. I also have horrible IBS and I also get diarrhea very often when i’m anxious, it’s almost immediate. For the puke, I try and carry a cup with me so I can puke into that if I need to but breathing technique’s don’t work for me. I have struggled with this now for 5 years, it has gotten better but still not great. I have prom coming up and I know i’m gonna puke and i’m just terrified. Sorry you’re going through this, you’re not alone and your feelings are very valid.

I can relate to the anxiety, I get nervous just thinking about leaving the house. As for advice keep a spare set of clothes with you when you go out then even if something does happen you can feel confident that you have a change of clean clothes. Hope this helps!
