Did anyone have a really hard time getting tested for bipolar 2, and if so how did you finally get tested? I’m trying to figure this out… my psychiatrist won’t even test me for it. 🤦‍♀️

For me, it was pretty simple, but I know if you're under 18, they'll delay looking into it or diagnosing. In some states, it's illegal to diagnose certain disorders to minors, including bipolar. There may be states that don't diagnose if you're under 21 too.

if anything it was too easy to get diagnosed, and was maybe done prematurely, for me. it was only 3 days after my 18th birthday, in a hospital er, at 3 am, by a teledoc, and he put me on mood stabilisers immediately. i'm really not sure what you mean by "test" either - there's not really a specific test that you have to do to get a diagnosis, since this isn't like, a viral infection, or a broken bone that can be x-rayed, etc. it can be screened for, but there are other conditions that cause mood swings too, so it's not really a concrete yes or no. screening for me was just answering a few verbal questions and describing my experience. so i'd like to ask, what has you under the impression you have bipolar 2? why is getting screened for it important to you, and what are you hoping to get from a potential diagnosis? and have you shared any of those answers directly with your psych, or just asked to be tested?
