My psychiatrist says she thinks I have bipolar type 2 disorder but is "nsf" about it... like, she's unsure. I'm feeling weird about having that on my permanent medical record...? Anyone with experience?

@Stormshield the Genesight test is wonderful! It definitely helps weed out ones that will not help at all

Bipolar has a lot of stigma behind it, but getting an accurate diagnosis and medication has saved my life

The process of getting a correct diagnosis is complex. Symptoms can be the same or similar in so many different disorders. Sometimes, it takes exploring a potential yet possibly wrong diagnosis to lead you to the correct one. I would hope that a psychiatrist would not put a disorder down as an actual diagnosis unless they are positive that it's correct. But, it will be listed in their notes as a possibility. I have gone through several wrong diagnoses to get to one that seems right. I hope you find the right diagnosis and meds to help you.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 as a teen. It was a bit of a hassle to figure out for sure. It was a blessing in disguise, though. Finally there were meds that helped me get stable for awhile.

@faerywyrm I took a "Genesight" test... šŸ¤žreally hoping I can skip the "trial by fire" medication experimentation... I tried Caplyta before the genesight thing, and ended up in the ER.

@Stormshield I was too young for a test. I was diagnosed by symptoms and an allergy test ran to see what I could tolerate. The dosages were started low to test for side effects.

I ended up having schizoaffective. But I was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar 2 when I was 12.
