New here. Just recently had my first real mental health evaluation at 41. I’ve always had family telling me “nothing wrong with you/your past” but just too much felt off and sure enough… I used to think it was cute/funny how my mom’s side has this joke about how we’re all a chip off the old block for forgetfulness. Now I realize it’s generational trauma and adhd and anxiety and whatever else that probably caused this, not genes. My mental health was never a priority as a kid and now I know that I got in trouble for forgetting chores…probably due to adhd that was undiagnosed. It’s becoming so clear now. And also depressing. I set a boundary with my mom last night and of course she wasn’t happy; she doesn’t know boundaries. So I’m stepping back from most of my family, since I recognize they all have mental health issues they are ignoring and are suffering from. I will not suffer any longer because of them. Has anyone here stepped back from family or no-contacted them, due to newly placed boundaries?
