Medical Advocacy: How Many Doctors Did You Go Through Before You Were Believed?

15 years. And some doctors still don’t believe my condition.. (was dx with RSD/CRPS 2 years ago. I’m 32. Over half my life fighting something when everyone said I was fine. One of those dx that your thankful there’s a name… until you google the disease. 😭). My advice - don’t give up!! Only you know your body. It’s hard. I know. But keep fighting.

I feel like I’m still not 100% believed but I’ve probably been though at least 12. I have one pretty good doctor right now but I see multiple specialists and I don’t like all of them.

It feels like hundreds. It took 2 for my HS. It took 2 for my genu valgum. I have gone through 4 so far with none of them helping with my 3 ruptured disks. And the first ENT I found fixed all of my sinus issues. 3 doctors later I still haven’t found a cause for my migraines or motor tics. It’s so frustrating feeling like I have to FORCE doctors to do their jobs but if we all keep advocating for ourselves we’ll eventually get the treatment we deserve and hopefully the “tough it out” mentality in the medical field will die a painful death.

Depends on what condition honestly. My mental illness took me pretty much until my family started having issues. So maybe like 5ish general physicians? As well as my primary and neurologist. And one therapist. For migraine it was three or four neurologists.
