Manic Episode After Trauma: Is It Normal for Bipolar 1?

i agree with what everyone else is saying. i would think of it as a trauma response. it’s your body’s idea of protecting itself.

Very much so. Bipolar disorder can be triggered by general things that can disrupt our environment and well being. Trauma is something that heavily impacts the body (especially nervous system) and it exasperates episodes. I usually go manic after any trauma.

I believe so. I had a bad long manic episode after I went through a rough miscarriage.

Mania can be caused by a traumatic event . It always does for me . When it happens , I have to call my doctor and switch my meds until I’m back to normal .

From what I’ve read, yes if you are bipolar 1, or bipolar 2 or cyclothymic a manic episode can be triggered by a traumatic event or experience. When my grandfather died last year it sent me into a depression followed by triggering a manic episode. Hope this helps 🙏🏻
