New here. Anyone lost contact with close friends after being diagnosed with chronic disease? It's difficult thinking ppl avoid you bc of chronic illness. We need the opposite. A feeling of being sheltered and protected by close friends.

Yes I definitely have lost friends. I was having a hard time leaving my house for awhile due to my Crohns. I would invite them over to hangout at my house. But a couple would just say we can hangout when you get better. They don’t understand that Crohns is chronic. It’s not going away. So I will most likely never be “better”.

I have had Crohn’s disease for years but I also had Breast Cancer , people seem to avoid me not sure why , it’s kind of when you need them. I guess everyone processes things differently so maybe it’s to hard for them to see you Sick. It’s hard , spent many lonely days in a hospital bed . So glad that’s just a bad memory. Hope I gave you some food for thought to reasons why people tend to avoid situations. Have a great day
