I haven’t really been able to find people with similar situations as me like I was hoping. I had an invasive ankle surgery seven years ago to fill in a large cyst in my talus and remove bone fragments. The surgeon used bone marrow from my tibia as well as my pelvis to fill in the cyst and promote new growth. I had an osteochondral lesion, and they ended up using stem cells to regenerate cartilage in that joint. Flash forward to current day, and I’ve been having extreme pain again. Turns out I have bone spurs and more bone fragments. Additionally, I have bone marrow edema in my talus and another, smaller cyst. The procedure for this upcoming surgery sounds much more invasive than the first. Essentially my knee will act as a donor for two bone “plugs” to fill in an accepting site in my talus to reduce the edema and replace the cartilage above the bone with actual hyaline cartilage. On top of that, they essentially have to break my tibia in order to reach the problem site on my talus, and they’ll put it back together with screws. I’m extremely nervous for this procedure, but I’m wondering if anyone here has had cysts in their bones or something of the sorts.
