The most underrated advice that people won't put on online forums 1. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and soften the stool. 2. Eat fiber-rich foods like lentils, beans, and veggies to regulate bowel movements and reduce constipation. 3. Avoid processed foods, especially spicy and salty ones. 4. Take a daily warm bath to soothe the anal area. 5. Keep the anus clean with water after bowel movements to reduce irritation and prevent infection. 6) exercise as much as you can, at least twice a week.

For keeping my bowel movements soft, I use psyllium husk fiber and magnesium. Fiber doesn't work well for everyone so you need to experiment. For cream, calmoseptine is soothing. It's a thick barrier cream with zinc. I also found ice to be helpful. I did all of this for a thrombosed hemorrhoid, time plus a steroid cream (doctor prescribed) worked best because it was thrombosed. Steroid is only for external. I normally try natural stuff first but this was a dire situation. Since then I use the zinc cream it does help soothe the area. Also menthol witch hazel gels. I also use a squatty potty and have found that to be super helpful with alignment to prevent straining.
