Any fellow health anxiety sufferers out there? Health anxiety has been a struggle for me since I was a teenager. I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow to address an issue that’s been bothering me for a while now, but the prospect of the appointment is now ALSO giving me anxiety. What if the doctor is concerned? What if she recommends uncomfortable tests? What if I have cancer? (You can see the anxiety spiral!) But I know I need to keep the appointment because not seeing a doctor will also continue to fuel my health anxiety. I’m going to try to just stay in the present moment, not worrying about what could happen hours, days, or even months in the future. Chances are I don’t have cancer and I need to remember that my doctor is here to help me and to relieve my anxiety! Thank you for listening! 💕

Hello! I've had health anxiety for over 10 years. It's horrible, every little thing my mind turns it into "I have cancer" " I'm dying" ... I struggle with this daily. Yes the doctor is there to help and if you don't go it won't fix anything. Just keep telling yourself that you'll feel better after. Wishing you the best of luck!

Ooooh man...cancer is rampant in my family and my mother is now in the terminal phase of her second round... I have so much terror and anxiety around the very notion of being diagnosed that it does keep me from staying up to date with my screenings. At present I am two years behind. I NEED to change this. Please, don't let yourself start canceling appointments because it just makes it easier to cancel or never schedule the next one. These screenings are to help us and ignorance won't protect us. You've got this! You go and take on the appointment with your head up and reward yourself after. No matter what the outcome may be, knowledge is power! ❤️

@In_vino_veritas I’m definitely going to my appointment! I’m actually relieved that it’s today and I can just get it over with. I’m sure that it will help ease my anxiety and that it won’t be as bad as I make it out to be in my mind. I may also just be up front with my doctor and tell her that my symptoms are causing me a lot of anxiety - I’m sure being honest about that will help too.

Maybe that what I have instead of just anxiety I swear my mind be racing because of the constipation til the point my lower back hurts BAD now it's like the stress is making me lose weight and I'm like PLEASE dont be this or that because I wanna see my kids grow up. I get hot flashes so not sure if it's my hormones or not but I too got off depo and BOOM that's when constipation hit. Plus my mom passed 3 yrs ago and that's when my vitamin levels was very low. Recently had a colonoscopy and they removed a pre cancer polyp so my mind is very much all over. Now it feels like when I do go I'm not fully done... Scared to take these meds. ESPECIALLY when it say dont take if you have kidney or liver etc. Problems. Like I have muscle relaxers but yooooo scared to take because I dont want nothing to go wrong. I'm a stahm.

I also take zoloft which isn't helping as much lately and I don't have ins currently so I have to wait to see about changing them.

@SarTee Does the Zoloft have a lot of side effects ? I was recently prescribed but not sure if I should take it.

I feel this so much. I have palpitations and I've been tested for many things, told its all ok. But.... they keep happening, had them on and off since I was about 12, but lately I've had intrusive thoughts about being older and out of shape so maybe something is wrong and now my anxiety is higher and it's every day. I'm having trouble shaking it.

@SarTee I get heart palpitations whenever my anxiety is really high. I've went to the emergency room bc of them and all tests came back fine. Anxiety really causes alot of issues.

@SarTee I’ve had on and off constipation issues over the past few months since I went off birth control pills. I also have endometriosis so I’m not sure if the endo or the changing hormones is causing my bowel issues - or both! But my mind is constantly telling me it must be colon cancer. I also get hung up on thinking my symptoms will only get worse and that I’ll end up in some sort of emergency surgery situation (which I know is not a realistic fear to have). I’m constantly researching causes and cures for constipation. It’s becoming a bit OCD-like. I have a history of heart palpitations as well. I used to get them a lot in adolescence but I don’t as much any more. I think it’s important to remember that most people get palpitations here and there and it doesn’t mean something is wrong with your heart. Palpitations are also a symptom of anxiety so you could just be fueling the symptom. Palpitation —> anxiety about palpitations —> causing more palpitations. It’s a rough cycle. I’ve been there!
