Be very forward and ask directly why the resistance. Ask them how familiar they are with the condition and if need be, find a new doctor. I too went missed for many years for a plethora of reasons. So many physicians are not as familiar as they think they are with ADHD. If they’re open to it, try to discuss the struggles and feelings you have had since you were younger up until now. If you identify that they’re actually listening, but still resistant, the last thing you may try (before finding someone else) is making a compromise/trial with other therapies. Set reasonable expectations and a timeline up front (at LEAST 90 days; 180 preferably). If it doesn’t make a difference, uphold your end, then find someone else.
