I get so overwhelmed with emotions, I will want to talk about what’s on my mind, but I can’t, I drift in thought and the only thing that comes out is “I’m okay” it’s like I’m stuck inside myself. Anyone with similar experience?

I journal a ton! And my his and I even have a journal that we both write in. He gets nervous about it though. He has trauma of his own, and he will turn to avoiding issues, so he hasn't written in it in a while, but that's okay, because he still encourages me to write in it for him to read and for us to talk about. I get extremely worried though because I don't want to hurt him or his feelings.

I think the person receiving the words matters too ❤️

Oh my gosh, yes, I have this problem too! I’m nonverbal under high stress, and it’s so frustrating to me to not be able to just get out what is on my mind. The words are there, my mouth just cannot make them come out, and trying harder just makes it harder. I do feel like things that I have scripted (like the, “I’m fine” response) can come out, but that’s all I get. Have you tried writing things down instead? Or typing them on your phone? I find that I have a much easier time communicating through text than I do verbally, so maybe that is something you can try. Even if you are just journaling to yourself, it’s good to be able to get those thoughts out somewhere.

I get like this alot, especially when talking about how I feel or if I'm upset. It feels like it's on the tip of my tongue yet I can't blurt it out forever, sometimes it takes hours of silence of the "trapped" before it comes out randomly after the fact..

@KittyKatKuo yes! I can totally relate with that! Hours of science.

Sometimes you feel "wrong" but can't exactly figure out why or how to say it so you get stuck. When I'm pushed and asked again I just fluster more because I start to panic. Trauma is weird and there is no one way to discuss or heal 💜
