Hello I just joined this app after seeing some ads for it. I'm looking to get back into therapy. I was told I no longer needed it about a year or two ago but my Dr informed me that my therapist shouldn't have made that decision for me. A lot has happened so I definitely need to get back into it. I am looking to try and get a therapist who specializes in Disociative disorders. I haven't been diagnosed but I have had dissociative episodes, lapses in periods of time, and also have shifted with at least one alter. I can hear her and she talks with me at times in the "headspace" but comes forward mostly when I myself shut down from anxiety. But it's almost like I watch her doing it. She has her own name, identity, voice, and her personality is mostly opposite of mine. I told my old therapist about my experiences and she asked her supervisor and told me that it isn't possible that I have DID because I'm aware that it's happening. Okay, maybe it's not DID. But then what is it? She didn't have the qualifications to tell me. But she just kept explaining it away as other things like "I'm glad you... think of these things in ways that help you." I doubt it was her intention but it made me feel like she thought I was lying or making it up. My alter doesn't come forward much and part of it is not feeling like she can be herself or live her own life due to having to mask and pretend to be me. Maybe it's not DID, maybe it's Other Unspecified Disociative Disorder or something. But either way, I hope to find someone who can both help me with all I'm going through and hopefully can accommodate my alter(s) (who knows there could be more I'm not aware of) and help us not have to mask. I'm sure that may not be healthy. Has anyone else dealt with dissociative disorders and finding a therapist who can help with that?
