How do you guys think austistic relationship differ from Allistic ones? I'm in a relationship and both me and my partner are austistic. I have a very very close best friend who is also in a relationship and he and his partner are both NT and able boddied. His partner has made a habbit of compareing my relationship to there's when it's really not that simple since our relationships are drastically diffrent. We have a raddically diffrent communication style, living style, everthung is completely diffrent since we think differently and in turn act diffrently. I know that we think very diffrently because me and this friend's partner have gotten into miscommunications since I tend to think more litterally and have more confusion if there's no specification. How do you belive austic relationships differ or if they even do differ? I'm interested in other peoples perspectives!

@jellycats I completely get it, I've daited people who were both NT and able boddied, and it was a nightmare in terms of life experience and communication, especially since most of them tened to hold things in then when we did talk about it and we made an effort they'd still be upset saying they were fine but then not fine in the same/simmilar situation and were never honest about their feelings, it was really something
i think neurotypical relationships are different from autistic relationships, communication is especially different for one thing. im not currently dating anyone but after being in an autistic4autistic relationship i never want to date a neurotypical person especially an ablebodied nt person, since i feel like theyd never fully understand me
I don't have any sure answers for you here, but I'm starting to wonder if the neurodivirgent and polyamorous community have a large amount of overlap. The people in relationships are almost all suspected of neurodiversity, and several of our friends also in polyamorous relationships are as well. For it to work well long term it takes lots of open honest communication and one thing I love is that I have committed relationships but also lots of my own time and my own space.

Based on the shared experiences, autistic relationships can differ from neurotypical ones in terms of communication style and understanding. One person mentioned that they and their partner, both being neurodivergent, understand each other more than anyone else. Another individual shared that they and their partner, who also has ADHD and OCD, share a level of understanding that they haven't found in any relationship with a neurotypical person. They also mentioned that they have to be open about when they're confused or overstimulated, which may not be as common in neurotypical relationships.
