Autistic friends, the more you learn how neurotypical/allistic/‘normal’ peoples brains work compared to ours, doesnt it feel like were the normal ones and they’re the weird ones? Lol

I think what surprises me the most is how regularly they lie; it's just built into how they communicate. They lie about how they're doing, what they're thinking and feeling, and stuff that doesn't even matter. And I do too when I'm masking, but I hate every minute of it

Yes definitely! Honestly neurodivergencies seem so much more "normal" compared to neurotypicalness and yet we're considered the "weird" ones and we try to adjust as much as we can to accommodate them but they almost never try to do so for us smh

Yes! They make everything so much more confusing and uncomfortable for no reason!

i honestly don’t understand how little they think. as a chronic overthinker, im built to consider everything and they genuinely seem shocked when i point out the obvious. we’re built to problem solve alone, theyre built to work as a team to do it. but whats most odd about that is how often they lie to their “team” or friends. the amount of times people have talked behind their friend’s back to me instead of having a real conversation with them is so odd to me.

I really do wonder how we're seen as weird. Realistically, we're just practical and logical. But some people have a problem with that. Oh well, I guess.

ive always been told im an overthinker by nt peers but im just, thinking about something as a whole rather then only thinking about whats directly in front of me. because of this i can come up with solutions to problems faster AND consider all these possibilities and variables, but I always get told i am overanalyzing and overthinking just because i see more than whats right in front of me

Exactly! Like social cues? For what?? Unspoken rules of society that I have to follow? But why? Like when I ask how you are I actually want to know but when you ask me you just expect me to say "good, how are you?". Very strange and so indirect.

        537d

@Skai omg i swear every time i actually give an honest answer to “how are you?” like when i say “could be better/just okay, you?” it’s like suddenly there’s weird tension in the air like i said something i wasn’t supposed to and it just makes it awkward after. i hate it so much

I feel like autistic brains think and communicate more directly. It’s honestly just more efficient and I don’t see why we’re the weird ones bc allistic communication has so many loopholes and unspoken cues when we could all just be direct and communicate so much more efficiently

I didn't realize being ND made me that different, my cousins also have it but they were so much more severe i felt bad for even having the label like i didn't deserve it? Until TikTok and i realized so many behaviors and habits i had i shared, like not understanding NT behaviors. I thought i was just stupid

For me it's with sensory things. Like how do you not cover your ears when a motorcycle goes past? And don't tell me skinny jeans are comfortable, you're lying 🤨

      • AorticOwl980

        544d

@aevyn i used to think i was just to big to fit them and that's why they felt like a itchy boa constrictor until i was told they are supposed to be tight? That was so weird to me

        544d

@aevyn I mean, skinny jeans are comfortable for me. Like a weighted blanket on my legs.❤️

Yeah, it's so weird being seen as the "weird one" or the "creepy one" when NTs are over here lying like it's second nature, going around with no empathy, it's just so weird. Makes me think I'm the normal one lmao

Omg I saw a tiktok talking about how NTs dont think about anyone else's perspective. Their perspective is the only one. And we take other perspectives into consideration for everything. Empathy. The difference is empathy.

      • Starcycle

@TwistedWolf5074 I'd like to quietly point out, as a lowno-empathy autistic, you can take other people's perspective into consideration without empathy. Personally, my lack of it makes it harder, but not impossible. (Sorry if this sounds rude, I just wanted to point that out and am bad at tones and such ^^)
