How do you manage daily life when the depression gets so bad that the medication you're taking seems to not work

Talk to your doctor. Get on different medications and therapy.

I don’t have bipolar but I do have treatment resistant depression that gets really severe, we aren’t sure the origin of my episodes other than they exist. The biggest piece of advice I’ve ever gotten is to just be kind with yourself, do one thing a day at least even if the one thing is you got up out of bed to go to the bathroom. It’s really hard, and sometimes whatever we try just doesn’t work. Slowly building back up other tools that aren’t medication take time, and effort, which is already hard when you’re depressed. Remember to be kind and patient with yourself during your depression, one thing a day even if it’s that you go pee. And if you have the spoons, maybe the one day can even be doing a chore, sitting outside for 15 mins, taking a warm relaxing bath, or anything else that you feel like you are capable of for that day. Good luck! I’m sorry it feels like your meds aren’t working, the medicine back and forth is always super hard and frustrating so I’m sorry you’re dealing with that.
