@StrangeLoveDr That reminds me of something I learned in DBT. Sitting and being uncomfortable with an emotion or urge until you know how to overcome it. Whether thru action or distraction, we learn a way to push away those feelings until we find a healthier way of dealing with them rather than acting upon them, like rage or fear for example.

I watch a mega-shit-ton of adorable animal videos or read stories of people helping others. My brain floods with enough of the good chemicals to at least get me out of bed. Once I'm out of bed, I remember I have the strength and stubbornness to go on, whether there's doubt in my head or not. I'm my own worst enemy, and I love nothing more than proving someone wrong.

I’ve discovered that certain types of stressors combat my depression and force me to remain motivated and focused. For example, I sometimes watch videos of people doing unjust things to others and the anger I feel from their actions turns into energy i can use on positive things like working out, my job, chores, etc. I turn what’s often considered a negative emotion into something that fuels positive action.

I take a day to myself to rest. I stay home, take a nap, take a bath with a bath bomb and other good smelling things. I like to pamper myself on days like that to help get me "out of my funk". I try to get my fiancé to take care of feeding our animals so I can just worry about myself. I always feel better and like I can take on the world after I've pampered myself, so I usually take my rats out and let them have some socialization and grass time at our local card game store where my fiancé works. I consider that a "safe place" because if I'm uncomfortable, the employees and regulars there will help me out.💕 You're not a bad person or backsliding if your depression gets the best of you from time to time. Sometimes we have to give it a day or two to beat us so we can get a little bit of rest to tackle it another day.
