How do y’all deal with flashbacks? I am dealing with something that caused me to get misdiagnosed with herpes that the doctor was adamant that he was right even tho the tests were negative. It was very traumatic and bc of a recurrence it it causing flashbacks to that time. Any help in navigating through it.

Generally the most helpful way to handle flashbacks is grounding yourself and reminding yourself or having a person you know remind you that that situation is over and you no longer have to go through it, also that there is no consequence to the flashback and that nothing bad will happen to you.

What makes you not have flashback

I get flashbacks too. Mines are from a traumatic relationship I’ve had before. Sometimes I get flashbacks during the day like if something triggers it. Mostly I get them when I’m really stressed out and I dream about it. It’s not healthy but I ignore mine, I usually put my headphones in and drown out my thoughts

@Nadia_c_art seconding this, music helps whether its being unable to stop thinking about the bad stuff or my phobias acting up or overwhelm. i use noise cancelling headphones for it when i can (my partner has a pair) but any decent headphones that block out some of my surroundings are good. as for music, depends on exactly how im feeling and whats going on but instrumental music is almost always safe - japanese instrumental math rock is a favourite, but i also use "binaural beats" decently often because they don't capture my music theory focus. classical may work especially if you have favourite composers or performers to look for. and game bgm, especially comforting games (think stardew valley, starbound, minecraft, etc) works well too

I don't have any experience with flashbacks but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're having them and hoping you feel better soon 😥💕
