Struggling to Communicate About Chronic Pain

does anyone else have a really hard time talking to their partner/family/friends about their chronic pain/medical issues? i feel like i either get obvious pity or problem solving. this makes me bottle most things up and then i become resentful and irritable. i dont know what to do, i feel like ive learned all the coping skills and im just at my wits end with wanting simple compassion and comfort from the people who love me...

Absolutely. Most people can’t empathize with what they can’t fathom, and the concept of being in pain 24/7 is really hard for most people to wrap their brain around.

💕I struggle so much with this. Honestly I try to build a circle that understands or empathize with me on some level. I feel so lucky with my boyfriend that is like that but a lot of my family still says very ableist things.
